The full story
MEC Artworks AI was built to close a specific gap in the mosaic design process: the distance between a concept and its first visual representation. In traditional practice, that gap is filled with hours of manual work — sketching, sampling, arranging physical tiles. The platform closes it to seconds.
We developed an AI generation engine that accepts user inputs — colour palette preferences, pattern style, tile density and scale — and renders mosaic visualisations in real time using a canvas-based output system. The results are immediately usable as client-facing concepts, not rough approximations requiring further manual refinement.
The interface was designed for two distinct users simultaneously. Design professionals needed speed, control, and the ability to iterate rapidly across variations. Clients needed to understand, react to, and approve concepts without requiring design literacy or technical explanation. Simplicity was the design brief — the tool had to accelerate creativity without introducing a new learning curve.
The result transforms the front end of the mosaic design process. Concepts that previously required a full day to produce and present can now be generated, iterated, and taken to client approval within a single working session. The platform is live and in active use by the MEC Artworks team.
